Occupy London - St. Pauls Cathedral reopens.

Occupy London - St. Pauls Cathedral reopens.

Having initially told the Police to let the occupation exist the Chapter of St. Pauls Cathedral have since withdrawn their support last Saturday closed the Cathedral to for the first time since WW2.

Today the Cathedral reopened and the lunchtime Eucharist service had hundreds in attendance. Having cited health and safety concerns as a reason for closing the cathedral there were no noticable changes to the running of the cathedral or the service. The health and safety concerns have been refuted by the community of Occupy London.

St. Pauls are now seeking an injunction to remove the protestors, and the City of London Corporation are also seeking legal advice into removing the protestors. Rev. Giles Fraser has resigned from his role at St. Pauls as he cannot justify in his mind the use of violence and unrest to remove the protestors for the gain of the Church. He was still present at today's service.

Thorne North Doncaster South Yorkshire 30th Aug 1976

Thorne North Doncaster South Yorkshire 30th Aug 1976

I recently posted an LNER wooden sign and mentioned the North Eastern Railway cast iron trespass board near the entrance to Thorne North station. I had seen this negative in my file and always assumed it was another photo of the NER sign.

However it is actually a LNER cast-iron board by the embankment within the station limits which I suspect is rare. It probably dates from the early days after the 1923 Grouping because I can't imagine the cash-strapped railway company wasting money later in its life! After nationalisation British Railways very rarely replaced the pre-Grouping and Grouping trespass notices although later the non-existent railway company names would be painted over leaving just "Railway" picked out in white. Presumably this was following legal advice!
